SIMONA BUCCI was formerly the artistic director and choreographer of the Imago Company founded in Florence in 1983, for which she created numerous choreographies, among others “Prima” (1983), “Crisalidi” (1985), “Arco” (1987), “Sine solo sileo” (1988), “Ponti d’acqua” (1990) and “Au Contraire” (1992).

In 2002 she founded the Company that was to take her name.

The Simona Bucci Company started its activity with the solo “Di ombre cerchiati gli occhi”, Venice Biennale 2002 Commission, choreography by Simona Bucci, original music by Paki Zennaro, with its first performance at the Fondamenta Nuove Theatre in the same year.

In November 2003 she presented “Indissolubile eco”, a duo inspired by Francisco Goya’s “Disparate Matrimonial”, choreography by Simona Bucci, original music by Stefano Landi, first performance in Chiasso, Switzerland.

In the summer of 2004 she gave her first performance in Rome with “Path”, a solo dedicated to Alwin Nikolais, choreography by Simona Bucci and with music by Alwin Nikolais himself.

In November 2005 she gave her first performance in Civitanova Marche of “I Rimasti”, inspired by “Il natale dei rimasti” by Angelo Morbelli, choreography by Simona Bucci, original music by Paki Zennaro, winning the “Choreographer of Europe” competition. This choreography also won the Danza&Danza prize in 2005 as the best Italian production of contemporary dance.

In 2007 the Venice Biennale commissioned the Company for the choreography for “Arresi alla notte”, presented at the V International Festival of Contemporary Dance of Venice and co-produced by the Festival Oriente Occidente of Rovereto.

In November 2008 the Company made its début with its first work dedicated to a young audience (from 5 to 8 years old), entitled “Giorgio e il drago”, freely inspired from the legend of Saint George and the dragon, co-produced by La Corte Ospitale of Rubiera and by the Fondazione I Teatri of Reggio Emilia, supported by the Tuscany Region.
