“The Sosta Palmizi Company has been the most significant among the foremost contemporary dance formations in Italy (1985), and the present Association, still guided by two choreographers from the initial group, is today an important point of reference in art and teaching for new generations of dancers and choreographers.

With their tireless spirit of research and unmistakable personal style gained through experience, for the last twenty years Giordano and Rossi have given us creations widely recognised not in our country alone and, with a sense of responsibility and personal sacrifice, they have devoted their time to the training, support and promotion of young artists.

Their twenty years of work has consistently and specifically contributed, and still contributes, to the constitution and the solidity of the backbone of Italian dance in our time.”

In 1990 the SOSTA PALMIZI Company broke up and one part of its artistic heritage became the Associazione Sosta Palmizi, with Raffaella Giordano and Giorgio Rossi as artistic directors. They were first based in Turin, then from 1995 onwards in Cortona, Tuscany.

As E. Satie said, GIORGIO ROSSI ”is a dancing mammal”.

At the age of four, when he saw the clown Dimitri performing in the surrealist dimension of the stage, he realised that the theatre was to be his life.

He owes his artistic success to the fact that he was able to watch the works of great masters, under a number of whom he learnt stage art both as a student and as an interpreter. In 1984 he was co-founder of the Sosta Palmizi; for over 18 years, this is the name under which more than 150 dancers have worked, then going on to find work in the most important European Dance Theatre companies, or founding their own groups. A large number of artists from other creative fields have also worked with Sosta Palmizi.

Thanks to the universality of the poetic art of movement that he uses, he is touring the world with his shows.

He has two sons, Tommaso and Giacomo of 13 and 6, and his partner is Flavia.

He belongs to that species of beings under threat of extinction who believe profoundly in the imagination.

His dance consists in an organic energy which he hopes will enable him to perform on stage for many more years.
